First Reading
• Reading from the prophet Isaiah:
• The Lord says: On that day, this song will be sung in the land of Judah:
• “We have a strong city.
• To save us, the Lord raised up walls and fortifications.
• Open the gates so that a righteous nation may enter, one that remains faithful.
• Lord, you keep in peace those of steadfast character, because they trust in you.
• Trust always in the Lord, for he is an eternal refuge.”

Responsorial Psalm
• R/ May the Lord build the house, may the Lord watch over our city, may he fill
us with his riches and keep us always from evil.
• If the Lord does not build the house, the builders labor in vain.
• If the Lord does not watch over the city, the guard keeps watch in vain.
• In vain you rise early and delay your rest, you who eat the bread of anxious toil,
for he provides for his beloved even while they sleep.
Second Reading
• Reading from the letter to the Hebrews:
• Brothers and sisters:
• Let brotherly love remain.
• Do not forget to show hospitality, for by doing so, some have entertained angels
without knowing it.
• Do not love money.
• Be content with what you have, because God has said: “I will never leave you
nor forsake you.”
• So we can say with confidence: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What
can man do to me?”
• In this world, we do not have a city that lasts forever, but we go in search of the
eternal city.
• Therefore, we must always praise God through Jesus Christ.
• This praise is the sacrifice we must offer. Let us praise him, then, with our lips!
• Do not forget to do good and to share what you have with others, for these are
the sacrifices that please God.
• The Word of the Lord.

• Blessed are those who are persecuted because of the Son of Man. • Your reward will be great in heaven.
Gospel
• Reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke:
• At that time, Jesus came down with the apostles and stood on a level place.
• A large crowd of his followers had gathered there, along with many people from
all over the region of Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coast of Tyre and
Sidon.
• They had come to hear Jesus and to be healed of their diseases.
• Those who suffered because of impure spirits were also healed.
• The whole crowd tried to touch Jesus, because power was coming from him and
healing them all.
• Jesus looked at his disciples and said:
• “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
• Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be satisfied.
• Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh later.
• Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you, when they insult
you, and when they reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.
• Rejoice greatly and be full of joy on that day, because you will receive a great
reward in heaven.”
